Twice the size of you!

Why is it everytime your training on the bag or shadow boxing or something you get non fighters coming up and telling enormous lies to impress you? It reminds me of bloody bodybuilders and how they know someone "twice the size of you" and they have never taken a steroid in their life, sigh......

Are we as males really that insecure? Well yes i think a lot are if i am being honest, just today i was training away after my weights workout on the punchbag and the guy that was using it with me felt compelled to tell me how he was so unfit but had just taken on a thai fighter last week at some event at last notice and had beaten him with his"systema" apparently every time this thai fighter "got a hold of him", that will be the clinch to you and me he just miraculously threw him to the ground! This was constant throughout the bout so he won by throwing a thai fighter to the ground for the entire bout, i wish i had asked him to show me how to break the clinch but sadly i forgot to ask. No worries as he explained that it was due to some sort of "wave" movement he uses.

All learnt in systema, now before everyone that trains in systema starts sending me letter bombs i have to point out that i have never trained in this system so im certanly not an expert but i have done some research on it and call me mr picky but i just dont think this guy really had this fight at all. Systema may be worthwhile i dont know but the point im making is i doubt it slows down time for fucks sake!

My reasons for this are as follows, he described to me that he is so finely tuned that even when someone comes at him in the street its all like slow motion. As he was telling me this he slowly fired a punch at me in slow motion action replay showing me what he sees when some guy in the street fires a punch at him. Mmmm, cant say i have ever seen a punch travelling at one mph before no matter how switched on i have been, they all travel too fast for me but then i havn't done any mystical arts or studied it that deeply.

Maybe i should have, then i wouldnt be as marked as i am now, mind you we all know someone else that claims to have had dozens of street fights some with weapons and he doesn't have a scratch on him so maybe systema is the way forward for us doorman, incidentally that guy has been associated with systema before now so maybe i have uncovered his hidden secret?

Anyway enough of him and back to my friend today, not only had he beaten this tha fighter by simply thowing him off while he had him in the clinch but he leathered 3 guys all at once in town at the weekend also! he was standing talking to someone when he noticed that his mate was on the ground getting a good shoeing a few feet away. Funny for such a good fighter not to notice the verbal leading up to his mate getting floored.....anyway, he then casually walked over to the ensuing scrap and calmly dispensed with 3 guys in a flash with, drum roll...you guessed it, systema!

With a flick of his wrist and a wave movement he despatched all three in a second. even when they tried to get back up the vulcan death grip was upon them and down they went, lucky they hadn't studied you know who's advice on getting back to your feet as he would have obviously been in deep shit then.

The main reason i love the fight game so much is because fighters are amongst the most able to boast about their abilities in such a macho arena but none do, after years of being surrounded by bodybuilders telling me how tough they were this was like being reborn to me.

I found something i loved with people with the same outlook on life as myself, no egos, no bullshitting, not consatnatly trying to impress just honest guys that loved their training and showed mutual respect for others willing to put their money where their mouth is. At times it seems the whole world has gone mma crazy to me, what i mean by this is everyone you meet claims to be wanting to get in a cage and fight but they never seem to make it to any classes. No not just mine but every other class i know of.

My old coach Willie Scott used to tell me he had heard every excuse going, i'm starting to believe him....

An all time classic for me is the guy who was on at me for months to learn some mma, now this guy was one of the original guys that propmted me to start Outcoldfightclub as he would never ever let me be about it. Claimed to have had years experience in kickboxing and muay thai etc, so i told him that the class was on monday night. Guess what, he never turned up. So i text him and he says "i cant find my gloves" so i tell him i have gloves, "i cant get a lift" so i point out he is 2 minutes walk away and never hear back.

Yes i know you are always going to get this but it puzzles me why guys feel the need to say that they will come along and then proceed to tell you what fight experience they have had and then never turn up??? I'm sure i'm not alone as an instructor when i say "we don't really mind if your not interested, you don't have to pretend you are, we will get through it honestly!

I hope none reading this is put off at coming to the club as it's supposed to work the other way, as in it's supposed to encourage you to come along and give it a try. You never know you may actually like it and get something from it, hell if you don't i'll give you your cash back. Unlike some i'm as honest as they come about my abilties and i'm open to criticism good or bad. Personally i like more experienced guys to come along as i can learn from them too as well as my students, all different systems, all different ways of teaching, all different angles.

So if your reading this and have never trained as a fighter before or want to do some r.b.s.d, come and tell me i'm pish (rubbish) or even get a bit fitter come down and give it a go. And trust me, you honeslty don't have to try and impress me, the fact that you have come along to check us out is impressive enough.
